Vol. 524 No. 2

Written Answers. - Eligible Part-time Teachers Scheme.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

430 Ms Coughlan asked the Minister for Education and Science when a decision will be made regarding the application by Donegal VEC to appoint EPT posts at the tourism college in Killybegs, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22165/00]

The eligible part-time teachers – EPT – scheme, introduced in 1989, was formulated in the context of the delivery of courses at second level and had stipulations and conditions which were inappropriate to the third level area.

Under the PCW agreement for teaching staff in the tourism college, Killybegs, it was agreed that, on completion of a suitable agreement on contracts for future part-time lecturers in the third level area, further discussions would be required to review the arrangements currently applying in the tourism college, Killybegs.

A new agreement for part-time lecturers in institutes of technology has recently been agreed. In the context of this new agreement, it is intended that discussions will take place shortly to review the arrangements currently operating in the tourism college, Killybegs.
