158 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the estimated total number of trees likely to be planted by the end of 2000 in both public and private forestries; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22301/00]
It is estimated that my Department will grant-aid 14,000 hectares of new afforestation during 2000. In addition it is estimated that a further 7,000 hectares of clearfelled land will be reafforested. There are no statistics available in my Department in respect of non grant-aided tree planting but the level of such planting is likely to be very limited.
