Written Answers. - Nursing Education.

Michael Finucane

Question:

138 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Health and Children if the Mid-Western Health Board will pay tuition fees towards the higher diploma in midwifery for trainee students; and, if so, when these refunds will be paid. [22562/00]

The Mid-Western Health Board will refund course fees for students studying for the post registration higher diploma in midwifery with effect from the academic year 2000-01, in return for a commitment on the part of student midwives to work for at least two years, following qualification as a midwife, within the public service, in accordance with the terms of the Department of Health and Children circular 95/2000, dated 1 August 2000.

Arrangements are being made at present, in consultation with the students and the University of Limerick for the implementation of these arrangements.
