Vol. 524 No. 3

Written Answers. - Architectural Heritage.

Denis Naughten

Question:

168 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans she has to restore the Napoleonic fortifications at Shannonbridge, County Roscommon; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22583/00]

The fortifications at Shannonbridge, County Roscommon are not in the ownership or guardianship of my Department and as such the question of any necessary works required at the site is not a matter for my Department. However, the Deputy will be aware that the site is covered by a preservation order and thus enjoys the protection of the National Monuments Acts, 1930-1994. Under the National Monuments Acts anybody wishing to carry out any works which would interfere in any way with this site must give my Department two months written notice in advance of the works proposed.
