Vol. 524 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

Tony Gregory

Question:

179 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if the required additional funding will be made available to projects such as a sports complex (details supplied) in situations where allocations made under the youth facilities fund have been insufficient to allow a project to progress to building stage. [22585/00]

Under the young people's facilities and services fund, the Government has approved funding of over £37 million over three years to support some 330 individual projects, including an allocation of £810,000 towards the development of a sports and recreation complex in John Paul II Park.

At the request of the Cabinet committee, the national assessment committee for the fund is examining the current stage of development in relation to a number of remaining facility projects, including the John Paul II Park complex. A report will be submitted to the Cabinet committee on these projects as soon as possible.
