Question:

240 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the percentage difference in the incidence of BSE in 2000 compared to the same period in 1999; and the age profile of the animals identified to date this year with BSE. [23426/00]

The number of BSE cases to end of September 2000 was 87 compared with 54 to end of September 1999.

The age profile of BSE infected animals to end of September 2000 is as follows: two animals born in 1991, six animals born in 1992, 22 animals born in 1993, 31 animals born in 1994, 25 animals born in 1995 and one animal born in 1996.
