Vol. 524 No. 6

Written Answers. - Architectural Heritage.

John McGuinness

Question:

270 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if a schedule of works has been agreed for works, promised in replies to previous parliamentary questions on Kells, County Kilkenny; Grangefertagh Tower, County Kilkenny; Tullaherin Tower, County Kilkenny and Carlow Castle; if so, the time frame in each case; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23520/00]

The works scheduled for Kells Priory are currently under way and these should be completed by the end of 2003. I refer the Deputy to my previous answer of 11 October 2000, No 254 on Grangefertagh Round Tower. The position has not changed since then. The order for the supply of scaffolding for Tullaherin Round Tower has been placed. Upon delivery this will be erected and a detailed inspection made to enable a programme of repair to be drawn up. The tower is likely to be ready for inspection in 12 weeks. Contracts for landscaping, presentation and interpretation have been placed for Carlow Castle and work will commence shortly. The contracts are due for completion by end March 2001.
