Vol. 524 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

280 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if allegations by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6W that gardaí were involved in a break-in at his home were investigated; and if the report and findings of any such investigation will be made available to the person concerned. [23614/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that this matter was investigated by an inspector from Terenure Garda station as a result of a complaint by the person in question on 27 January 1992. The complaint related to a period of time the person in question was away from his home in March 1989.

I understand that following his investigation in 1992, the inspector was satisfied that no break-in occurred, that there was no sign of break in or disturbance, and no sign of anything having been taken.

I am also informed that the inspector informed the person in question of the outcome of the investigation on the 30 September 1992 and that since then he has promptly answered all queries referred to him by the person's two solicitors.
