Vol. 524 No. 6

Written Answers. - Commercial Disputes.

Denis Naughten

Question:

157 Mr. Naughten asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the plans she has to establish a special court for dealing with commercial disputes; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23488/00]

The Company Law Enforcement Bill, 2000, which is at present before the Oireachtas, includes provision for the establishment of a statutory company law review group. The main role of the group is to advise the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment on the amendment and consolidation of company law to promote enterprise and enhance corporate governance.

I have already set up the group on an administrative basis and its first two-year work programme includes consideration of the efficacy of court procedures and structures for commercial cases. The group is due to complete its current report by end 2001.
