Vol. 525 No. 1

Written Answers. - Telecommunications Company.

Dan Neville

Question:

36 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Finance if he or the Revenue Commissioners have been approached by representatives of Eircom plc to establish the most tax efficient manner in which a portion of that company could be sold; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23644/00]

It is established practice that a Minister for Finance does not comment on the tax affairs of an individual or a company when replying to a Parliamentary Question, other than when the Deputy asking the question is asking the question on behalf of the taxpayer involved. In this instance, it is not clear that the Deputy is asking the question with the consent of the company concerned. In these circumstances, therefore, I must accept the advice of the Revenue Commissioners that I should not comment on the matter.

Question No. 37 taken with Question No. 20.
