Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Organic Farming.

Question:

329 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the number of agricultural advisers employed specifically in organic farming methods; the plans there are to recruit more qualified advisers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24198/00]

Teagasc employs one agricultural adviser dealing specifically with organic farming. However, a number of other advisers give extensive support to producers on a part time basis. I am informed that Teagasc expects to increase the number of advisers dedicated to organic farming to three over the next two years to pursue market-led opportunities.
