Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Ownership.

Ulick Burke

Question:

465 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason for the delay in sanction and approval to the Western Health Board for the purchase of Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, County Galway; the current state of negotiations between the parties; if these talks are complete; and if so, the reason for the further delay in this regard; and if the development plans are to continue as outlined under the hospital's own plans. [24100/00]

Discussions are ongoing between my Department, the Western Health Board and the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood, as owners of Portiuncula Hospital, in relation to finalising arrangements for a transfer of ownership of the hospital. I understand that these discussions have progressed to an advanced stage. Certain issues have arisen from these discussions which require further clarification and professional advice. I remain committed to pro gressing the transfer of ownership of Portiuncula Hospital at the earliest possible date.
