Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

880 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science when prefabricated accommodation at a school (details supplied) in County Monaghan will be removed and a suitable alternative put in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24267/00]

An application for replacement of temporary accommodation and refurbishment of existing accommodation at the school to which the Deputy refers has been received in my Department.

In advance of undertaking a major capital investment programme at the school it is necessary to determine the school's long-term projected enrolment. Currently, the planning unit within my Department is undertaking this assess ment. When completed, identified infra-structural deficiencies at the school will be addressed.
In July 2000 the principal of the school was advised to request a report from a consultant architect on the feasibility of converting existing accommodation for use as home economics rooms. Such conversion works would displace existing temporary accommodation. A response in this matter is awaited.
