Written Answers. - Breast Feeding Programme.
In line with the recommendations of the national breastfeeding policy aimed at heightening awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding among the general public, I have provided funding to La Leche League of Ireland to produce a television campaign on the benefits of breastfeeding. I understand that this campaign will commence shortly.
In continuing to support the promotion of breastfeeding in Ireland and in line with the objectives of the Health Promotion Strategy 2000-2005, I propose to establish the post of national breastfeeding co-ordinator. The post has been recently advertised and it is hoped that an appointment will follow without delay. The establishment of this post is recognition of this Government's commitment to further awareness on the benefits of breastfeeding.
