Vol. 525 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Closure.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

215 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the proposed closure of the Bon Secours Hospital, Tuam, County Galway; his views on this closure; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25201/00]

The provision of health services in the Western Health Board area is the responsibility of the Western Health Board in the first instance. As the Deputy will be aware, the Bon Secours Hospital, Tuam is a private hospital and, accordingly, I have no role in the provision of services at that hospital.

I understand that the Western Health Board held a special meeting on Friday 3 November at which there was a very comprehensive discussion about future services in the Tuam area and I am awaiting further proposals from the board in the matter.
