Vol. 525 No. 3

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Ivan Yates

Question:

331 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the total expenditure by his Department and local authorities on county and minor roads; and the proposals he has to increase this expenditure. [25015/00]

The State provision for non-national roads this year was more than £268 million which is an increase of some 11% on the 1999 allocation and 55% on the initial 1997 allocation.

Since local authorities have until 6 December 2000 to submit claims for payment under the 2000 programme, it is not yet possible to give details of the total expenditure on non-national roads in the current year.

I will be announcing details of the 2001 non-national road grants early in the new year.
