Vol. 525 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority League Tables.

Ivan Yates

Question:

332 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his Department has established league tables on local authorities' value for money on expenditure in relation to roads, sanitary services and public administration costs. [25016/00]

In May this year I asked local authorities to set up procedures to measure their performance against an initial 21 indicators, some of which are financial. They will be required to publish their performance against these indicators in their annual reports. It is my intention to build on this process over time. A new financial management system for local authorities which will be rolled out before the end of next year will provide a sound platform on which to base a new costing system for individual services. This will facilitate further development of the performance indicator regime.
