Vol. 525 No. 5

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Acts.

Michael Creed

Question:

292 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will introduce amendments to the road traffic Act so as to enable the motor insurance industry introduce a variety of restrictive cover insurance policies for young drivers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25528/00]

There is no proposal at present to amend the road traffic Acts in the manner referred to.

Some proposals for amending legislation may emerge from the work of the Motor Insurance Advisory Board which is expected to be completed next year. Any such proposals would also need to respect the requirements of EU legislation in this area.
