Question:

113 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she will comment on the recent meeting between Government ministers and public representatives and personnel from North Mayo; the nature of the proposals for economic development discussed; and her intentions in regard to future development in the Erris region. [23323/00]

The Taoiseach, Deputy Bertie Ahern, the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, Deputy Fahey, the Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, Deputy Moffatt, Senator Chambers and I met a delegation from the North West Mayo Development Action Group in Government Buildings on 4 October.

The infrastructural and development needs of the Erris region – particularly with regard to the provision of sustainable employment – were discussed and I have been asked by An Taoiseach to co-ordinate the various development iniatives being taken in this regard.
