Written Answers. - Architectural Heritage.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

129 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the time-scale for the completion of the renovation of St. John's Castle, Dungarvan, County Waterford; if all the archaeological works have been completed; when it will be open to the public; if it will include an interpretative centre; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25632/00]

Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands (Miss de Valera)

Works at Dungarvan Castle are ongoing. It is expected the works on the barrack building will be completed by the end of November and the site will be open to the public for the summer season 2001. These works include the restoration of the barrack building for use as visitors reception and the provision of exhibition including interpretative material and guide facilities. There are no plans to undertake any further archaeological excavations at present.
