Vol. 525 No. 5

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

John Perry

Question:

193 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will intervene on behalf of a person (details supplied) and grant her the additional suckler cow quota in view of the fact that the quota of 12 is needed to make the firm viable; if he will make a favourable decision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25440/00]

The person named has applied for an allocation of suckler cow quota from the year 2001 national reserve under category C. The conditions applying to the allocations of quota from this reserve provide for allocations to be made to eligible applicants in the categories A, B, C and D in that order of priority. In the event that there was insufficient quota available to allow an allocation to be made to all eligible applicants in any category, allocations would be made to those with the lowest level of livestock units in the first instance and progressing upwards until all the available quota was distributed.

Because of the limited amount of quota available for distribution, approximately, 6,880 premium rights, and the large number of applicants, 5,336, allocations were only possible to eligible farmers in category C whose livestock units did not exceed 20. As the person named has 21.6 livestock units, I regret to say that there was insufficient quota in the reserve to allow an allocation to be made to her.
