Vol. 526 No. 1
256 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will confirm that no further closure of Garda stations is intended; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26061/00]
I have not closed any Garda stations since I became Minister and I can confirm to the Deputy that I have no plans to reduce the existing number of Garda stations in the future.
257 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of Garda stations in the country; the number of such stations open on a 24 hour basis, on a 12 hour basis and at a lesser level; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26062/00]
I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are 703 Garda stations in the country and that 154 of these are open on a 24 hour basis.
I am also informed that the remaining stations open for various periods according to local policing requirements and available Garda personnel.
