Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

190 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the extent to which new markets can or will be established for exports; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [27037/00]

Enterprise Ireland, through its worldwide network, helps its client companies with virtually every aspect of the internationalisation of their businesses. Enterprise Ireland works proactively with its clients to develop and implement strategies to penetrate markets, especially international markets. This involves the provision of customised services to individual firms, the organisation of group promotional events and the provision of relevant support.

In addition, overseas promotional visits are designed to help Irish companies achieve and increase business in selected target markets. They provide a unique opportunity for companies to gain access to key buyers, establish high level contacts relevant to the development of their business in the market in question.

Ministerial involvement in marketing and trade promotion activity complements the continuous work carried on by Enterprise Ireland, through its overseas office network, in developing and maintaining market contact, carrying out market research and gathering information and helping Enterprise Ireland clients to internationalise their businesses.
