Vol. 526 No. 6

Written Answers. - Motor Insurance Industry.

Noel O'Flynn

Question:

302 Mr. O'Flynn asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will explore with the insurance industry the cost and practicality of the introduction of a conditional low-cost motor insurance scheme for un-licensed drivers under 25 years old as outlined (details supplied). [27248/00]

As indicated in the reply to Question No. 292 of 14 November 2000, some proposals for amending legislation may emerge from the work of the motor insurance advisory board which is expected to be completed next year. Any such proposals would also need to respect the requirements of EU legislation in this area.
