Vol. 526 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

John Dennehy

Question:

405 Mr. Dennehy asked the Minister for Education and Science if any investigation has been undertaken into the need for a second level school in Togher, County Cork; if so, the outcome in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27544/00]

The planning section of my Department is currently examining the need for a new post-primary school in the Leghanamore, Togher, area of County Cork arising from an application received recently from County Cork Vocational Education Committee for provision of a new community college to serve the area.

The examination is focusing on the growth in population as a result of housing developments in Leghanamore, details of which have been sought from Cork County Council. Account will be taken, also, of the capacity of existing post-primary schools in the general area to cater for emerging needs.

As soon as the information on housing developments is received and assessed in the light of current school capacity, a decision will be made on the post-primary school requirements of the area.
