Question:

243 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children when he expects to make appointments at Mayo General Hospital for a number of positions (details supplied); when applications were received in his Department in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28472/00]

The provision of medical treatment is, in this instance, the responsibility of the Western Health Board. The board has submitted applications for approval of the posts of consultant physician, paediatrician and radiologist. These posts will be considered in the context of the board's overall priorities and the development funding available for 2001.

244 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the appointment of a fourth obstetrician gynaecologist at Mayo General Hospital; when he expects to make this appointment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28473/00]
