Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Criminal Prosecutions.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

340 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of persons who have been arrested under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, since 1 January 2000 who have not subsequently been charged with the offence in respect of which they were arrested. [28584/00]

The provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, relate to the detention of suspects after arrest. As it does not provide for a power of arrest, it is not, therefore, possible to provide statistics in the manner requested by the Deputy.
