Vol. 527 No. 3

Written Answers. - Examination Results.

John Browne

Question:

394 Mr. Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to circular S11/2000, no annotation will be put on any student's certificate until the result of a pending court case is known. [28508/00]

The position is that when the provisional results of the leaving and junior certificate were issued in August and September the result statements were accompanied by explanatory notes where appropriate. My Department commenced issuing the actual certificates on Wednesday, 29 November 2000. The certificates also carry an explanatory note where appropriate. However I can assure the Deputy that the explanatory note does not make any reference to a candidate's disability or special need. It does no more than provide factual information on how the standard national assessment was modified to facilitate the candidate.
