I propose to take Questions Nos. 105 and 107 together.
Overseas peace support allowance is paid to members of the Permanent Defence Force who are participating in overseas military operations on direction of the Government. This allowance is paid in addition to basic pay, at rates ranging from £30.95 per day for the rank of private, up to £42.55 for the ranks of commandant and above.
An additional allowance – overseas armed peace support allowance – is paid to members of an armed contingent of the Permanent Defence Forces dispatched for overseas military operations. armed peace support allowance is paid at a rate of £12.50 per day, for all ranks.
These allowances, both of which are exempt from income tax, are payable as daily rates, and are paid irrespective of the actual hours worked. They are not linked to the annual remuneration of members of the force.
