Vol. 527 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Beef Assurance Scheme.

Michael Creed

Question:

125 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if his Department will charge farmers for on-farm veterinary inspections for beef. [28830/00]

I assume the Deputy is referring to the veterinary inspection of farms proposed under the national beef assurance scheme. The specific and detailed arrangements for these inspections, including the cost elements, are being finalised at present through discussion and negotiation with the interested parties. The rate of inspection fee will be a matter between the inspector and farmer and this aspect is being discussed by the representative organisations with a view to agreeing a system which will not impose an undue burden on farmers.
