Vol. 527 No. 5

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

162 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health and Children the degree to which generic prescribing is evident at present; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29137/00]

Current figures for the general medical services scheme, the scheme for which reliable statistics are available, indicate that 61% of items prescribed do not have a comparative generic product on the market. Of the remaining 39% of items prescribed for which there is a comparative generic product available, generic products were reimbursed in 56% of these claims.
