264 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has considered the suggestion that a national waste management agency should be established in place of the current approach where individual local authorities are having difficulties in progressing the implementation of the waste management strategy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In the reply to Questions Nos. 240, 246, 252 and 301 of 8 November 2000 I indicated that the establishment of a national waste management authority was a possible action which might be considered in any medium to long-term review of our approaches to waste management, but I did not consider that it offered any prospect of short-term advantage. That remains the case.
