Vol. 528 No. 2

Written Answers. - Special Needs Programme.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

241 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 132 of 21 November 2000, a decision has been made on the terms of reference and membership of the proposed advisory committee on deaf education; if not, the reason therefore; when a decision is likely to be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29974/00]

It is my intention to establish a representative advisory committee to offer guidance to my Department on the range of key issues relating to the future education of deaf children.

Planning for this advisory committee is currently under way in my Department. Final decisions regarding the precise terms of reference and membership have not yet been taken. However, I expect that these matters will be finalised shortly.

The committee will be representative of the various interests involved in the area of educational provision for the deaf, including members of the deaf community.
