Vol. 528 No. 3

Written Answers. - Technology Infrastructure.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

208 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands when the study by consultants commissioned by Údaras na Gaeltachta, regarding the technology infrastructure of the Gaeltacht and the Islands, will be presented to An tÚdarás; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [30259/00]

I understand from Údarás na Gaeltachta that following a request from me they have commissioned consultants to undertake a study of the technology infrastructure of the Gaeltacht and the Islands. The aim of the study is to identify deficiencies in such infrastructure and to make recommendations as to the necessary developments that are required in order that the Gaeltacht and the Islands will be in a position to compete, on an even basis, with areas with such infrastructure for technological industry. A draft of the consultants' report has been received which will be discussed between an tÚdarás and the consultants and it is expected that the report of the consultants in final form will be available before the end of January 2001.
