Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Serviced Land Initiative.

Paul McGrath

Question:

849 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the towns of Rochfortbridge, Miltownpass, Tyrrellspass, Kinnegad, Kilbeggan, Rathwire, Killucan in County Westmeath have been approved under the serviced land initiative scheme; the date of such approval for each town; and the funds that will be made available from his Department to provide services under that scheme to each of those towns. [2111/01]

Applications for approval of schemes under the serviced land initiative have been submitted by Westmeath County Council in respect of Kinnegad, Tyrellspass, Killucan and Rochfortbridge. The position in each case is as follows. The tenders for the Kinnegad sewerage scheme extension were approved in June 2000 and work is currently in progress. The estimated cost of the scheme is £1.4 million, 40% of which will be provided by the Department in accordance with the terms of the serviced land initiative. Proposals for sewerage schemes in the case of Tyrellspass and Killucan-Rathwire were submitted recently and are currently being examined in the Department. Estimated costs of the schemes are £0.93 million and £0.79 million, respectively. A proposal for a sewerage scheme for Rochfortbridge was submitted for consideration in an earlier round of the serviced land initiative but was not approved. No further proposal has been received from the council. No proposals under the serviced land initiative have been received for either Kilbeggan and Miltownpass. However, a sewerage scheme to serve Miltownpass has been approved for construction under the rural towns and villages initiative. The submission of a revised preliminary report together with a current estimate of cost is awaited from the council.
