Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Coroner Service.

Bernard Allen

Question:

1015 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has received a report in relation to the rationalisation of the number of coroners in the interest of securing an efficient and cost-effective coroner service. [1352/01]

In December 1998 the Government approved my proposal to establish a working group to undertake a comprehensive review of the coroner service. The group consulted extensively and carried out a detailed examination of the management, structural, legal and financial aspects of the service. It presented its final report late last year. The report was published in December 2000 following a Government decision to approve the preparation of legislation by my Department.

Question No. 1016 answered with Question No. 977.
