Question:

1040 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans he has to increase the expenses payable to a witness at an inquest other than a registered medical practitioner attending in a professional capacity; the increases that will be sanctioned; when they will become effective; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1792/01]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Mr. O'Donoghue): I have recently signed Statutory Instrument (No. 429 of 2000) increasing the fees and expenses payable under the Coroners Act, 1962 with effect from 1 January, 1999. The Statutory Instrument was laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas on 4 January, 2001.
