Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

John Perry

Question:

1269 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science when stage three approval will be granted to apply for planning permission for the extension to Calry national school in County Sligo, for which three extra classrooms, a general purpose room and office accommodation were sanctioned in May 1999; when the approval will be released; the reason for the delays encountered; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2109/01]

Architectural planning is proceeding for the provision of an extension at Calry National School, County Sligo.

It is not possible to say at this point when the project will proceed to construction as the rate of progress depends on factors such as the complexity and size of the project, the time required to undertake architectural planning, the volume of other projects being dealt with by the design team and my Department's building unit, the period of time required for the granting of planning permission and obtaining a fire certificate, the outcome of the tender competition and the procurement, where relevant, of bonds, insurance and tax clearance by prospective contractors. In any event, this process takes a period of time not less than two years from the commencement of architectural planning.

The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.

Willie Penrose

Question:

1270 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the construction of a new school at Coralstown, Mullingar, County Westmeath; if all necessary planning steps have now been finalised by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2120/01]

I take it that the Deputy is referring to Coralstown National School, Mullingar, County Westmeath. Architectural planning for the provision of a new three-classroom school at Coralstown, County Westmeath is progressing.

It is not possible at this point to give any indication as to when the project will proceed to construction as the rate of progress depends on factors such as the complexity and size of the project, the time required to undertake architectural planning, the volume of other projects being dealt with by the design team and my Department's building unit, the period of time required for the granting of planning permission and obtaining a fire certificate, the outcome of the tender competition and the procurement, where relevant, of bonds, insurance and tax clearance by prospective contractors. The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.

Question:

1271 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the construction of a new school, details supplied, in County Westmeath; when it will proceed through the remaining stages of architectural planning; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2121/01]

Stage two, outline sketch scheme, of the Department's design team procedures has been approved for the proposed new school to which the Deputy refers. A stage three, developed sketch scheme, submission is awaited from the design team through the management authority of the school.
