Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Placement.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

1320 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if sufficient primary and secondary school places exist in the various towns in north Kildare; if sufficient provision is likely to be made to meet the requirements of the increased population in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2507/01]

The north Kildare area has been the subject of regular review by my Department in recent years, in view of the general growth in population there.

At present, there are several school building projects in architectural planning in the area, at both primary and post-primary level. It is envisaged that, when these projects are completed, there will be sufficient school accommodation to meet future needs.

However, my Department will continue to monitor school accommodation requirements in north Kildare, to ensure that any emerging needs are addressed.
