Vol. 529 No. 3

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

107 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the position regarding proposals and-or discussions that have taken place arising from the severe flooding over the winter in various areas of north Kildare; if any steps have been taken to identify the cause or causes in each case; the further steps taken to identify an early resolution; if he will provide the financial resources necessary to undertake the work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2885/01]

The only flood relief proposal which has been the subject of discussion or investigation in the north Kildare area has been the Shinkeen Stream, Hazelhatch, drainage scheme prepared by the Office of Public Works. This scheme completed the public exhibition and consultation phase prior to Christmas and the Office of Public Works are considering the various observations received from the general public with the view to getting a scheme to work stage early this summer. The necessary financial resources are available this year to undertake the proposed scheme work.

In relation to other areas of north Kildare, the Office of Public Works will provide whatever support is requested by the local authority in carrying out their responsibilities to relieve flooding.
