Vol. 529 No. 3

Written Answers. - Industrial Relations.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

65 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will report on the work to rule taking place in his Department; the number of staff involved; the reasons for this action; and his proposals to resolve this dispute in view of the severe inconvenience caused to school principals and others who are in regular contact with his Department. [2779/01]

None of the trade unions or associations representing staff in my Department is engaged in any form of industrial action at present. I should add that in the interests of ensuring the efficient delivery of certain key services it has proved necessary for management to restrict telephone inquiries from the public to certain time bands. The underlying purpose of any such restriction is to enable staff to give undivided attention to processing work in areas such as payroll and pensions in as timely and efficient a manner as possible.
