Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

100 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Health and Children the timescale for the completion of the Alzheimer's unit in Carndonagh, County Donegal; the works, listed chronologically, that have taken place since the announcement by the Minister of State; the reason for the delay in relation to the advancement of this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3471/01]

The provision of services for people with dementia in the Carndonagh area is a matter for the North Western Health Board. A planning brief and draft architectural plans for the provision of a dementia unit in Carndonagh have been prepared. At present, the board is considering the overall development needs for the community hospital site to ensure that all required works are incorporated within a comprehensive development plan. This process will be completed within a matter of weeks. A planning application will be made immediately this process is concluded and it is anticipated that the unit will be completed in 2002.
