The provision of statistical information on licensing applications is now a matter for the Courts Service and I no longer have any function in the matter.
I am informed by the Courts Service that court statistics are not compiled in such a manner as to provide the exact information sought by the Deputy. However, information is available on a nationwide basis on the number of special exemption applications, exemption applications under sections 10, 16 and 17 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1962, general exemption applications and occasional licence applications to the District Court for the legal years ended 31 July 1995 to 31 July 1999, and this information, together with the income generated by these applications, is set out in the table below. Statistics are not available on the number of such applications granted. However, the Courts Service estimates that approximately 90% of all applications nationally are granted. There would, however, be variations locally in the numbers granted.
The Courts Service is currently engaged in implementing a major IT programme which will, when it is in place, enable it to provide comprehensive statistics such as those sought by the Deputy.
