Vol. 530 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Operations.

Paul McGrath

Question:

125 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, in the context of the importance of community policing, he will ask the Garda Commissioner to appoint two full time gardaí in Mullingar, County Westmeath, with responsibility for community policing and who would liaise with residents' associations in Mullingar. [3489/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel to individual areas, that one garda is assigned to community policing in Mullingar on a full-time basis and another garda is assigned on a part-time basis. I am further informed that the position in regard to community policing in Mullingar will be kept under review in the context of the overall operational policing requirements of the area.
