Vol. 530 No. 2

Written Answers. - Excise Duty.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

78 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Finance if he will agree to extend the zero rating of excise duty to LPG used in the intensive farm area; and if he will use the Finance Bill to rectify the situation. [3505/01]

I assume that the Deputy is referring to rates on LPG for industrial and commercial purposes. I have no plans to amend the excise duty rates on LPG used for industrial and commercial purposes. There is an EU minimum rate of excise duty for such LPG used for such purposes. The Irish rate is very close to that rate. The EU Commission has proposed substantial increases in existing EU minima in their energy tax proposal.
