Question:

178 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Health and Children the estimated capacity of the new maternity unit planned for Cork University Hospital in terms of births per year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3890/01]

The new maternity unit planned for Cork University Hospital will replace the existing facilities at St. Finbarr's and Erinville Hospitals. The project is currently at design stage. The project team overseeing this project are now reviewing the design brief to consider all issues which may arise in relation to maternity services in the Cork area.
