Question:

180 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of births in the Cork region in each of the years 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3892/01]

Data on births are published in the annual and quarterly reports on vital statistics compiled by the Central Statistics Office. The most recent figures available refer to the third quarter of 2000 and these are provided in the following table in addition to data for 1997, 1998 and 1999. Figures are provided for the number of births which actually occurred in the Cork area and also for the number of births to mothers resident in Cork regardless of which area of the country the births took place.
