Vol. 530 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Dan Neville

Question:

172 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Education and Science when the school building-repair programme will be decided for 2001. [4081/01]

: My Department's primary and post primary building units have a capital allocation of £93 million and £125 million respectively for 2001. As the Deputy will be aware, there are continuing and competing demands annually in respect of both these allocations. Additionally, the rate at which projects move through the design stages varies very significantly depending on both the size and relative complexity of the projects. A further significant consideration relates to the ease or otherwise of obtaining planning permission. Mindful of all of these factors, it is not practical to compile a rigid programme of works for any one year.

However, the Deputy can be assured that every effort is made to ensure that all projects are progressed as expeditiously as possible through the architectural planning stages.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

173 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the timescale for the building of a permanent school for Coláiste Cois Life, Lucan, County Dublin. [4082/01]

Currently, a second revised stage 2, outline sketch scheme, submission is being examined within the building unit of my Department. If this revision is found to be satisfactory, approval will issue to the Client on this project, County Dublin VEC to proceed to stage 3 of the design team procedures, developed sketch scheme.

At this stage it is not possible to say when construction will commence on the new school.
