Róisín Shortall

Question:

174 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if his officials have initiated moves to acquire a permanent site for the new St. Patrick's National School, Diswellstown, Dublin 15; and if he will make a statement on the progress to establish this school, including the appointment of staff. [4083/01]

My Department has carried out a preliminary technical assessment with regard to a location for the new St. Patrick's National School, Diswellstown, Dublin 15 and the matter will be considered further in the light of this assessment.

In regard to the establishment of the school, the application for recognition is being processed and has been referred to the local inspector for consideration and a report. When this process is complete, a decision will be taken on the formal recognition of the school. In the event that the application is successful, the patron will be advised to proceed with arrangements for the appointment of a principal.

Question:

175 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has now acquired full legal ownership of the site for the primary school at Littlepace, Castaheany, County Dublin; the price that was paid for the site; and if he will make a statement on progress to establish this school including the appointment of staff. [4084/01]

My Department's legal representatives, the Chief State Solicitors Office, are currently in negotiations with the vendor's legal representatives. As the negotiations for the purchase of the site have not been fully finalised as yet, it would be inappropriate for me to disclose information regarding the value of the site.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

176 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to a school extension (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4085/01]

An extension of 2,268mf7>2 is being planned for the school in question to cater for a projected long-term enrolment of 950 pupils. The project is progressing through architectural planning. A Stage 4/5 submission, encompassing detailed design and bill of quantities, was received in my Department in December 2000 and is currently being assessed. When this assessment is complete and found to be satisfactory, the matter of allowing this project go to tender will be determined.
