Vol. 530 No. 4

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Jim Higgins

Question:

182 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo who is in urgent need of a psychological assessment has not been assessed by his Department. [4159/01]

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that two of the psychologists who have recently joined the national educational psychological service (NEPS) will shortly commence providing a psychological service to additional schools in County Mayo, including the school attended by the named child. It was not possible to arrange an assessment for the child before now because NEPS had not been in a position to provide a psychological service to his school. I have asked NEPS to have the psychologist assigned to this school investigate the needs of the child named by the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
